A Look Back at 2020 (the Good Stuff)

2020 has gotten a bad rap, and rightfully so. We had more curveballs thrown at us than a Mets game where 50 cent is slinging the first pitch. We're all too familiar with all the bad sh*t that has happened this year so, for the sake of topping 2020 off on a good note, here is our list of things that transpired that didn't involve deaths and a global pandemic.
Happy New Year, folks!
The Rise of Tik Tok.
From instant coffee creations to 10-second dance routines, many of us took to the new social media platform during the pandemic lockdown to pass the time.
Living in sweats.
With mandatory lockdowns stopping us from getting draped up and dripped out, we found comfort in baggy sweatpants and oversized hoodies.
The Earth had a chance to breathe.
Global COVID-19 lockdowns caused fossil CO2 emissions to decline by an estimated 2.4 billion tonnes in 2020.
One step closer to commercial space travel.
On May 30, NASA and SpaceX successfully sent two astronauts to the International Space Station on the first ever commercial spacecraft.
Korean cinema makes movie history.
South Korean film “Parasite” took home Best Picture at the Oscars this past year, becoming the first non-English language film to win the big prize.
Skateboarding, cranberry juice and Fleetwood Mac.
Nathan Apodaca aka @420doggface420 blessed us with the good vibes we needed while skateboarding, sipping juice and blissfully jamming to “Dreams” by Fleetwood Mac.
We learned that chess is pretty freakin’ cool.
Netflix’s ‘Queen’s Gambit’ became a huge smash and Google search queries for chess doubled while searches for “how to play chess” hit a nine-year peak.
A step forward for psychedelics.
Oregon became the first state to decriminalize drugs and Washington D.C. decriminalized magic mushrooms. Pyschedelic-assisted therapy also became more common in parts of the U.S. and Canada.
